How to treat our children with respect (and also get things done)
What is something your little ones fights the most?
Changing clothes/diapers?
Lunch time?
đTreating our children with respect is one of the key ingredients of conscious parenting.
When you show respect towards your children, you are directly enabling them to have stronger self-esteem, which allows them to forge healthy relationships in society. It also teaches them to handle their emotions in a healthy way and it helps them reciprocating the respect which they receive from others.
âď¸NEVERTHELESS, as a parent, we have to make sure our children are safe, this is our #1 priority! And hygiene is included in that and honestly toddlers could give less about changing their diapers. Theyâd be fine for daaaaays. BUT we know based off of our experiences to change the diaper will keep them healthy. A lot of times we want to guide or âhelpâ our children from making âmistakesâ, based off of our experiences, so they donât get hurt (emotionally) or teach them things we already know how to do to make it easier on them. Which we should try to avoid, as long as they are SAFE.
But in this case some things are a parentâs decision. Some things are a childâs decision. This right there is one of yours to make! Your child can decide how they want to feel about it and if they decide to be upset, thatâs ok! Remember, your child will still love you, even though they might be mad at you.
So long story short sometimes when we know the answer is going to be -no- include your little one as much as possible and state what is going to happen, instead of asking and eventually disrespect their answer by doing it anyway.
